NPTC Level 3 7760 Advanced Certificate
In Pet Store Management
at Capel Manor, Enfield

This one year part-time course, developed in association with the Pet Care Trust, is a recommended qualification for all those involved in pet retailing and commercial pet breeding. It is also valuable:
- for those involved in the pet store licensing and inspection process, especially in relation to new and proposed requirements under the 2007 Animal Welfare Act.
- as an additional specialist qualification for those working towards or holding Level 3 accreditation in animal care, management or related subjects
The Course
This nationally recognised programme is suitable for candidates established in the industry and/or able to study for a Level 3 qualification. It aims to develop understanding of the professional care and management of a range of typical pet species commonly in trade, exploring contemporary best practice in relation to the maintenance of health, welfare and legislative compliance. It provides an appropriate Level 3 qualification for pet store licensees and an alternative to N/SVQ training.
The course is structured as one day per week for 33 weeks beginning in September and finishing in June
Course Content
The 7760 Advanced Certificate in Pet Store Management comprises eight compulsory Units :
Unit 301: The management of small mammals
Unit 302: The management of dogs and cats
Unit 303: The management of reptiles and amphibians
Unit 304: The management of aquatics
Unit 305: The management of pet and aviary birds
Unit 306: Animal health and hygiene
Unit 307: Legislation for pet store managers
Unit 308: Pet store management systems and procedures
Qualification Gained
Successful candidates are awarded an NPTC / City and Guilds 7760 Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Pet Store Management.
Graded as pass, credit or distinction.
Entry Requirements
An ability to work towards Level 3 standards, evidenced by four or more GCSE subjects or equivalent at grade C or above, to include English and Science, or Level 2 literacy and numeracy and appropriate vocational experience.
Assessment
Assessment is by two externally set and marked short answer written examination
- Livestock Management (units 301-305)
- Pet Store Management (units 306-308)
Examinations are graded pass, credit and distinction. The overall grade for the qualification is determined according to the grid below.

Progression
Successful completion of the C&G 7760 Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Pet Store Management will enable you to progress to Level 4 qualifications in animal care, science of management.
