Animal Care Courses
at Capel Manor, Enfield

As Greater London's major provider of animal care courses, the College maintains a wide range of species of animals from exotics (snakes, small reptiles and spiders), to farmyard favorites (sheep, goats, pigs, poultry and heavy horses).
The College has created an extensive range of facilities to meet the needs of people interested in gaining practical experience of working with animals. Facilities include an animal teaching block, exotic animals section, stockyard and laboratories.

Level 1 Landbased Certificate
(Animal Care)
This course is a full-time skills development programme and bridge for students hoping to progress to level 2.
Entry Requirements
All applicants are assessed on an individual basis with interviews arranged at any time throughout the year.
Progression
Successful students may progress to the First Diploma, to NVQ training in industry or to part-time courses. This introductory course provides basic knowledge and the chance to develop practical skills.
First Diploma Animal Care
This one year full-time course offers an introduction to working with a wide variety of animals. It provides the practical skills and background knowledge required to form a solid foundation in animal care.
Progression
Success in this course can lead to a variety of careers in the animal care industry. Students gaining a merit grade or above and key skills accreditation may be able to use this as a progression route onto the BTEC National Certificate/Diploma in Animal Management.
Entry Requirements
Boundless enthusiasm for working with animals and 2 GCSEs at grades D-F grade (or higher) level 1 land based or NVQ level 1 or equivalent and summer school participation or accreditation of prior learning and appropriate experience gained in a related working environment.
National Certificate/Diploma Animal Management
The certificate is offered as a one-year full-time course integrating practical skills with theoretical knowledge and understanding, designed to prepare you for a professional career in animal care. A flexible attendance pattern over a longer period is also possible in appropriate circumstances. The
certificate is equivalent of 2 A levels, the diploma 3 A levels. The qualifications may be taken intensively in one year.
Progression
To employment or higher education.
Entry Requirements
4 GCSEs at grade A to C including a science based subject or merit in BTEC First Diploma in Animal Care or Accreditation of Prior Learning together with appropriate experience/knowledge gained in a related working environment.
NPTC Level 3 7760 Advanced Certificate in Pet Store Management
This one year part-time course, developed in association with the Pet Care Trust, is a recommended qualification for all those involved in pet retailing and commercial pet breeding.
Entry Requirements
An ability to work towards Level 3 standards, evidenced by four or more GCSE subjects or equivalent at grade C or above, to include English and Science, or Level 2 literacy and numeracy and appropriate vocational experience.
Progression
Successful completion of the C&G 7760 Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Pet Store Management will enable you to progress to Level 4 qualifications in animal care, science of management.
