Entry Requirements
You are welcome to visit the college to discuss and identify with the course tutor a study programme which will help you decide on the best route to this qualification. However it is essential that you are already employed in a conservation related industry or undertake regular voluntary work with an organisation which will give you some degree of responsibility for project management. An NVQ Level 2 in Environmental Conservation can account for one mandatory unit at Level 3

Training and Assessment Methods
The course delivery is based on the work-based learning model. This is an individual learning approach and relies on collaboration between the candidate, the employer or volunteer supervisor and the college. You can be accredited for prior learning achievement. An individual ‘learning agreement’ will identify which parts of the qualification can be attained through your normal work pattern and discussion with your employer will identify work based projects to achieve the required units.

The programme will be offered over 2 years although some candidates may complete the qualification in a shorter period. During the course we will identify several projects which will benefit your workplace and gather the necessary evidence for your assessment.

There is no final examination. Assessment is by means of a portfolio of evidence which includes details of your practical experience, knowledge and understanding.
You will need good literacy and organisational skills to attain the standard of evidence portfolio for assessment.

Throughout the programme there will be regular portfolio reviews and elements and units can be accredited at any time providing that the evidence is
a) current (within the last 3 years)
b) sufficient to meet all the criteria for each element/unit
c) valid i.e. relevant to the element/unit
d) authentic

Qualifications Gained
Success in this programme of study will lead to NVQ Level 3 in Environmental Conservation accredited by City & Guilds of London Institute. Completion of one or more units will lead to a Certificate of Unit Credit which can be credited towards the full qualification.

Progression
Success in this qualification will enable access to an HND in Countryside Management and similar higher education courses.

Venue and Facilities
The course will take place at the main college site at Capel Manor, an 18th century manor house set within 12 hectares of gardens. The College has well equipped classrooms and workshops and leases a 75 hectare farm at Forty Hall where conservation and agricultural practice are complementary.

Fees
Please refer to the College prospectus

There is an additional fee for the candidate logbook, registration and administration.

Working in Countryside Conservation
During the past twenty years the opportunities for employment in countryside and conservation work have expanded greatly. At present there is a steady demand for staff with practical countryside skills and, with changes in agriculture and a greater awareness of environmental issues, the demand is increasing.
