Capel Manor
College has devised a 'hands on' part time 36 week programme (one
day per week) between 10am and 3pm, starting September 2006 and
finishing in term time July 2007.
An ideal
programme for avid amateurs and those wanting to move into horticulture
as a professional.
It offers practical knowledge and hands on experience. An excellent
foundation programme for beginners.
The
Course
This nationally
recognised programme consists of one certificate:
Certificate in Horticultural Skills (9352). The awarding body City
& Guilds validates the scheme.
Course
Content
The topic areas covered over the 36 weeks of study include:
- Growing trees,
shrubs and roses (selection, establishment, care and maintenance)
- Growing flowers
(herbaceous and annual plants, care and maintenance)
- The lawn
(selection, establishment, care and maintenance)
- Propagating
plants (vegetatively and from seed)
- Use of a
range of tools, equipment and machinery
- Health and
safety
- Plant Identification
Qualifications
Gained
On completion of this programme you will have the
opportunity of achieving:
C&G 9352 - Certificate in Horticultural Skills
This course offers progression to City & Guilds Practical Gardening
Certificate 0062.
Assessments
There will be a minimum of twelve practical tasks assessed.
Entry
Requirements
Female, unemployed, a willingness to learn new skills,
to undertake practical tasks and/or to progress into Horticulture
as a career or as a volunteer.
Progression
Successful completion of the C&G 9352 Certificate in Horticultural
Skills will enable you to progress to C&G 0062 Certificate in
Gardening.
Fees
Free, PPE and hand tools supplied. Childcare
and travel support may be available.
