This course
of study is designed to provide a broad introduction to the principles
and practice of horticulture for those wishing to pursue a professional
career in horticulture and for keen amateur gardeners, particularly
those who want the opportunity to have their knowledge formally
assessed.
The
Course
This is
a one day part time day course, held between September and July.
The course enables the student to gain a wide background knowledge
in the Principles and Practice of Horticulture, leading to the Royal
Horticultural Society Examinations in February and June.
The site provides the ideal learning environment and opportunities
to see expert gardening practices.

Qualifications
Gained
Success on this course leads to the RHS General Examination
- Horticulture. This is an accepted entry qualification for the
RHS Advanced Certificate and RHS Diploma in Horticulture. It can
also be used towards obtaining the National Certificate in Horticulture

Assessments
Assessment is by two 1½ hour written papers.
Horticulture 1 - Planning Principles and Production (H1)
Horticulture 2 - Ornamental Principles and Maintenance (H2)
Both papers are made up of 15 short answer and 3 long answer questions
Examination is in February and June.
Entry
Requirements
All students should have a willingness to learn and
be assessed theoretically and by examination.Normal entry requirements
are:

Completion of a Level 1 horticultural programme.

Minimum of 4 GCSEsHowever, other relevant qualifications of equivalent
standard and/or practical experience in horticulture will be considered.
Additional
Costs
Students must provide their own steel toe-cap safety boots and secateurs.
Venue
This course takes place at Crystal Palace, Lewisham,
at Capel Manor's main campus in Bullsmoor Lane, Enfield, at Castle
Green, Gale Street, Dagenham, at Popes Lane, Gunnersbury Park, Acton,
West London, and at The Storeyard, Inner Circle, Regent's Park,
London.
