This
course is for those who wish to gain a recognised qualification
in Floral Art. In order to successfully attain this award, students
will find it necessary to produce some work from home. This award
provides a sound background of knowledge and competence in the skills
of Floral Art and allows you to progress on to the NAFAS Module
2 Floral Art Course.
The
Course
A one day a week course of 1 year's duration.
There is no end of year examination, candidates are continually
assessed to allow them to demonstrate competency over all the elements.

Content
Module 1 - Basic Floral Design
30 weeks
- Mechanics
for flower arranging
- Conditioning
of plant material
- Use
of containers and bases
- Basic
flower arranging designs, including line and modern designs
- Preservation
of plant material by air drying, pressing and glycerining
- Use
of photography
- Understand
the influence of different lighting systems on colour
- Understand
the requirements for entering a competitive show
- Learn
how to propagate plants
- Learn
how to classify plants
- Produce
a portfolio of plants suitable for flower arranging
- Understand
the basic structure of a plant
- Produce
a portfolio containing work carried out during the year - some
time will be allocated in class for this, but some work will have
to be carried out at home.
Course
Requirements
Flowers, foliage, containers and mechanics to
be supplied by the student, plus a folder for presentation of class
work. Students are also required to provide flower arrangement equipment
and wear suitable clothing.
Qualifications
Gained
Success in this course leads to the NOCN Module 1
NAFAS Floral Art and Design Award.
Entry
Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements, however candidates
must demonstrate a genuine interest in flower arrangement. No previous
knowledge is required, although of benefit to student. You are welcome
to visit the College for a personal discussion with a course tutor
to identify a study programme which will help towards your intended
career.
Facilities
Floristry workroom and viewing of extensive gardens.
Floristry and flower arranging training shop.
Venue
This course takes place at Capel Manor's main site
in Bullsmoor Lane, Enfield.
