This course
offers foundation skills and knowledge which will develop an opportunity
to pursue a career in parks, gardens and general landscape maintenance.
The
Course
This is a one year part time course, one day per week, from January
through to December 2005. The course objectives are designed to
give you the basic skills and information required to achieve National
Vocational Qualification Level 2 Amenity Horticulture - (Landscaping)
Certificate. You will become familiar with the practices and principles
in different aspects of amenity horticulture, gardening, maintenance,
health and safety, working with people, growing on plants and maintaining
exterior landscape features.
There
is no end of term exam, NVQ 2 Amenity Horticulture - (Landscaping)
is continually assessed in the candidate's workplace.

Qualifications
Gained
Success on the course leads to the National Vocational Qualification
Level 2 in Amenity Horticulture - Landscaping Certificate.
Students
will be trained to NPTC level in the safe use of pesticides and
calibration of knapsack sprayers. Formal assessment by The National
Proficiency Training Council is offered on site at an extra cost.
Assessments
You will be expected to carry out a wide variety of practical tasks
of which some will be assessed and recorded towards your qualification.
There
is no end of course examination for the NVQ Level 2 Amenity Horticulture
(Landscaping option) but you will need to submit a workbook portfolio
of evidence.
Entry
Requirements
Entry to this programme will normally follow a satisfactory NVQ
Level I Amenity Horticulture study period, a willingness to learn
new skills and a commitment to achieve the award is expected.
You will need to be in employment or working as a volunteer in
a landbased industry.
Progression
On
completion of the full NVQ2 Amenity Horticulture Landscaping Certificate,
students have the option of converting this into an apprenticeship
award (with additional work) or moving onto the Advanced Apprenticeship
Scheme.
Equipment
Students will have to provide their own steel toe-cap boots, secateurs
and a raincoat and leggings for wet weather. A lever arch file with
dividers and a clipboard are also required.
Venue
This course takes place at Capel Manor's main site in Bullsmoor
Lane, Enfield, or at our Gunnersbury Park Centre in West London,
or at Upminster Court, Hall Lane, Upminster, Essex.
