This one
year course is unique to Capel Manor College and it aims to equip
students with the knowledge and practical skills required to become
competent in organic practices and further develop permaculture
skills. It also offers the student the principles and practices
of growing medicinal / herbal plants and develop the holistic knowledge
of each individual.
The
Course
The course runs one year from September to July. A wide range of
topics and lectures are supported with handouts and practical experience.
Time will be spent in the garden and horticultural unit.

Visits to organic sites are arranged during the year. Some of
the visits relate to on going projects.
Qualifications
Gained
Success
on this course leads to the City & Guilds Amenity Horticulture
(0220) Phase 2 Year 3 Certificate in Organic Husbandry and Holistic
Studies. This qualification can also lead to credits on the NCH
in Organic Husbandry and Holistic Studies, please refer to the NCH
leaflet.
Assessment
Assessment is by assignments, practical tests and an end of year
examination.
Students attending the course need to allow 2 hours per week for
coursework (to be completed at home).

Phase 2 Year 3 Certificate in Organic Husbandry and Holistic Studies.
Entry
Requirements
All students should have a sound understanding of
horticultural practices and a good plant knowledge prior to starting
the course.
The
normal entry requirements are:
- City
& Guilds Certificate in Gardening 0062
- RHS
Certificate in Horticulture
however,
other relevant qualifications of equivalent standard and / or practical
experience in horticulture will also be considered.
Course
Costs
Apart from the course and examination fees, students will need to
equip themselves with safety boots, secateurs and protective clothing
for practical work.
Venue
This course takes place at Capel Manors main
site in Bullsmoor Lane, Enfield and at Popes Lane, Gunnersbury Park,
Acton, West London.
