This qualification
is designed to fill the gap between the RHS General Certificate
in Horticulture and the RHS Diploma in Horticulture.
It is a stand
alone qualification but it is also the first part of the RHS Diploma.
The
Course
The course is offered one day per week for five college terms.
Course
Content
The course is composed of four modules, each of which
can be achieved independently.
The modules covered are:
Year 1:
Module B
Plant Taxonomy, Morphology and Anatomy
Plant Physiology
Plant Health
Module J
Establishment and Maintenance of Decorative Ornamental Turf
Plant Selection, Establishment and Maintenance
Hardy Ornamental Nursery Stock
Year 2:
Module A
Growing Media and Plant Nutrition
Plant Propagation
Module C
Practical Horticulture
Assessment
Modules A, B and J are each assessed by a 2 hour written examination
which takes place each February and July.
Module C is assessed by a 3 hour practical exam which takes place
in September.
Qualifications
Gained
Success in completing all three written examinations
and the practical exam leads to the RHS Advanced Certificate in
Horticulture.
Candidates who pass the Advanced Certificate can progress to the
RHS Diploma if they wish.
Entry
Requirements
All prospective students are assessed on an individual
basis, but a minimum entry qualification of the RHS Level 2 Certificate
in Horticulture or equivalent will be necessary.
Venue
This course will take place at Capel Manors
main site in Bullsmoor Lane, Enfield, Middlesex, or at Popes Lane,
Gunnersbury Park, Acton, West London.
