Capel Manor
College was established as a centre for horticultural studies in
1968. Over the years we have built a strong tradition of quality
provision for a growing number of students. Our team of specialist
staff, facilities and resources for the study and practice of horticulture
are unrivalled.
Our recognition as a Centre of Vocational Excellence for Horticulture,
Landscaping and Garden Design rests on best practice in training
supported by strong links and partnerships with our specialist industry
bodies.
Alongside full-time provision for school leavers and mature entrants,
our programme of part-time day, evening and short courses provides
a wide range of specialist skills and knowledge updates. We are
proud of the success enjoyed by former students in building satisfying
careers drawing on inspiration from Capel.

NEW
Sports Space Advanced National Certificate Sports Turf and Landscaping
Capel Manor College has received funding through the ‘On your marks’ programme as part of the LSC Pan London ESF Programme 2 to deliver a NEW landscape design level 3 programme and a NEW Sports Turf level 3 programme. If you are striving to increase your knowledge and understanding of design, attendance on this programme will prove to be invaluable to you. Apart from demonstrating a commitment to continuous professional development, it is an ideal opportunity for you to up-skill at a time when business/employment opportunities are opening up, as 2012 approaches.
An ideal course for anyone looking for the next step up the career ladder. The programme is run over 1 to 2 days part time between May and December 2007.
National
Certificate in Horticulture Scheme A & B
The National Certificate is a widely recognised award in the horticultural
industry (Equivalent to 2 A Levels.), with options in plant production,
landscape construction, and rock and water. Both schemes have garden
design modules.
Progression
Students may progress to the second year of the National Diploma
or direct to a Foundation Degree where they have supporting success
and experience.
Entry Requirements
4 GCSEs at grade C and above including a science. Accreditation
of Prior Learning is available for mature entrants.
National
Diploma in Horticulture (Scheme A Garden Design and Construction)
Prepare for a professional career in garden design and landscaping
on this nationally recognised programme.
BTEC
(Edexcel) Introductory Diploma in Land and Environment (Horticulture)
This course is a full-time skills development programme and bridge
for students planning to progress to level 2.
Entry Requirements
All applicants are assessed on an individual basis with interviews
arranged at any time throughout the year.
Progression
Successful students may progress to the First Diploma, to Apprenticeship
or to part-time courses. This introductory course provides basic
knowledge and the chance to develop practical skills.
First
Diploma in Horticulture
This one year course is designed to give students level 2 knowledge
and the opportunity to acquire the practical skills in the chosen
subject.
Progression
Successful students may progress to the National Certificate, National
Diploma or part-time routes such as Apprenticeship schemes.
Entry Requirements
4 GCSEs at grade D and above
The course is designed for 16-19 year olds but mature students returning
to learning are also welcomed.
Apprenticeships
and Advanced Apprenticeships
We offer apprenticeships and advanced apprenticeship programmes
in Amenity Horticulture. This means you will learn the skills relevant
to your chosen career and leave with a nationally recognised qualification.
A successful learner would be expected to achieve an NVQ Level 2
on the initial apprenticeship programme and NVQ Level 3 on the advanced
programme. If you are 16 - 24 it's the ideal opportunity for you
to learn, work, earn and get qualified at the same time.

Palace, Lewisham. Advanced Apprenticeships are available at
Regents
Park.
National
Certificate and National Diploma in Horticulture (Scheme B Garden
Design & Plant Production)
The National Certificate is a one year full-time course: the National
Diploma takes a further year. Designed for enthusiasts for a rewarding
professional career in horticulture.
Progression
Successful students may progress to Higher Education or move directly
into employment and further training.
Entry Requirements
4 GCSEs at grade C and above including a science. Distinction in
the First Diploma, or other qualifications of an equivalent standard.
Accreditation of Prior Learning is available for mature entrants.
Entry direct to second year for National Certificate holders.
Foundation
Degree in Garden Design
This programme may be taken full time over two years or part-time
over 4 years. It offers a sound vocational training in all aspects
of Garden Design. Students completing the HE qualification may
progress on to an honours programme.
