Capel Manor
College have devised a part-time 1 year programme (one day per week)
starting September and finishing in June/July.
An ideal
programme for avid amateurs and keen professionals offering both
theory and practical knowledge and hands on experience.
The
Course
This nationally recognised Gardening Scheme consists of two certificates:
The Certificate in Gardening (0061-11) and the Practical Certificate
in Gardening (0061-12). The awarding body City & Guilds validates
the scheme.
Course
Content
The modules covered over the year of study include:
- Unit 2 Sites,
soils and cultivation
- Unit 3 Trees,
shrubs and hedges
- Unit 4 Beds
and borders
- Unit 7 Lawns,
landscapes and structures
- Unit 15 Practical
gardening tasks
Aspects of plant
propagation are also covered throughout this course.
Qualifications
Gained
On completion
of the year programme you will have the opportunity of achieving:
The
Certificate in Gardening (Practical) (0062-02).
This
course offers progression to City & Guilds Organic Husbandry
and Holistic Studies, the RHS Certificate in Horticulture, NVQ2
Amenity Horticulture (Landscaping), City & Guilds Certificate
in Gardening 'Allotment Gardener' and entry on to a comprehensive
range of garden design programmes (although the latter requires
the attendance of an 8 week design access programme).
Assessment
The Certificate in Gardening (Practical) (0061-11)
Four end of unit exams covering the course content section of this
leaflet. Each exam is 1½ hours long comprising of 18 short
answer questions. (Note: These exams are spaced throughout the course).
To pass unit 15 a satisfactory level must be achieved on 12 practicals,
3 from each of the theory units 2, 3, 4 and 7.
Entry
Requirements
All students should have a willingness to learn and
be assessed on new skills and experiences in horticulture.
Normal
entry requirements are:
- Completion
of a Level 1 horticulture programme
- Minimum
of 4 GCSEs
However,
other relevant qualifications of equivalent standard and/or practical
experience in horticulture will be considered.
Venue
This course takes place at The Storeyard, Inner Circle,
Regent's Park, London, at Capel Manor's main site in Bullsmoor Lane,
Enfield, EN1 4RQ, at Popes Lane, Gunnersbury Park, Acton, West London,
at Upminster Court, Hall Lane, Upminster, Essex, with the opportunity
of work based learning.
