Capel Manor College has devised a 'hands on' part time 6 month programme (one day per week for 6 hours plus a series of Saturdays for 5 hours) starting January 2007 and finishing end of July 2007.

An ideal programme for avid amateurs and keen professionals offering practical knowledge and hands on experience.

The Course
This nationally recognised Gardening Scheme consists of one certificate: Horticultural Skills (9352). The awarding body City & Guilds validates the scheme.

Course Content
The topic areas covered over the 6 months of study include:

  • Selection, establishment, care and maintenance of trees, shrubs and roses
  • Herbaceous and annual plants, care and maintenance
  • Selection, establishment, care and maintenance of the lawn
  • Propagating plants (vegetatively and from seed)

Qualifications Gained
On completion of this short programme you will have the opportunity of achieving:

C&G 9352 - Horticultural Skills Tests

This course offers progression to City & Guilds Organic Husbandry and Holistic Studies, the RHS General Certificate, NVQ2 Amenity Horticulture (Landscaping). The College is also able to offer other topic areas under the City & Guilds Gardening Certificate (0062) and entry on to the Foundation to Garden Design programme.

Entry Requirements
A willingness to learn new skills and experience in horticulture. The knowledge and understanding to undertake practical tasks.

You will also need to have a pair of safety boots and your own pair of secateurs.

Assessment
There will be a minimum of twelve practical tasks assessed plus a plant file project.

Progression
Successful completion of the C&G 9352 Certificate in Horticultural Skills will enable you to progress to C&G 0062 Certificate in Gardening, NVQ II Amenity Horticulture (if employed in horticulture).

This course takes place at The Storeyard, Inner Circle, Regent's Park, London, at Capel Manor's main campus in Bullsmoor Lane, Enfield, at Popes Lane, Gunnersbury Park, Acton, West London.
