The
Course
The course runs for 8 weeks during the autumn term and students
attend for one day each week.
This
short course is a pre-requisite for those students who have completed
the RHS General Certificate in Horticulture or the C&G Certificate
in Practical Gardening and wish to take the NOCN Garden Design:
Plants & Planting course. It uses 2 units from the Foundation
Course for Garden Design and offers students the opportunity to
gain a range of drawing and graphics skills so that they can embark
on the Garden Design: Plants & Planting course with greater
confidence. No previous drawing experience is required.
Course
Content
The course consists of 2 units
from the NOCN Foundation Course for Garden Design.
The
units are:
- Introduction
to Drawing
- Graphics
& 3 Dimensional Studies
Topics
include: drawing exercises both in the studio and in the gardens
so building up a portfolio of work. Students will also be introduced
to graphics so that they are familiar with new skills and drawing
equipment before beginning the Garden Design: Plants & Planting
course in September.
Assessment
Each
of these units will be assessed separately through coursework. Projects
will include a portfolio of drawings, a graphics layout sheet, and
a 3-D model.
Students
will need to allow at least 8 hours per week for coursework to be
completed at home.
Entry
Requirements
Students will have completed the RHS General Certificate in Horticulture
or the C&G Certificate in Practical Gardening.
Course
Costs
All students will need to buy certain drawing materials in order
to complete the course. Those going on to take the level 3 Plants
& Planting course and then the Principles & Practice course
may like to order a complete drawing kit through the college when
they enrol for the course. The kit costs around £78 and consists
of a technical pen set, compasses, set squares, scale rule, as well
as a sketch book, pencils and putty rubber.
