This two
year course will introduce you to Saddlery work and includes both
traditional craft saddlery and modern factory-based production methods.
The first year covers all the basic skills and techniques involved
in Saddlery, including bridlework, harness and basic saddle making,
and lorinery. During the second year you will work on a variety
of more advanced projects including bridle and harness work, and
saddle making.

Content
First Year
September to July is spent in College studying the basic skills
of saddlery and students will learn how to make a range of items
including Snaffle Bridle, Breastplate, Irish Martingale, Foalslip,
Headcollar, Girth and a General Purpose Saddle. Students also study
Business Management and Information Technology.
Additionally,
students are encouraged to take the Society of Master Saddlers/City
& Guilds Skills Test in Saddlery (Level 1) and the Worshipful
Company of Loriners, Certificate in Lorinery.
Second
Year
In the second year students undertake more advanced practical projects
in bridlework, harness and saddle making, and will take some or
all of the following qualifications:
- SMS/C&G
Skills Test (Level 2) in Saddle Making
- SMS/C&G
Skills Test (Level 2) in Harness
- SMS/C&G
Skills Test (Level 2) in Bridlework
Facilities
The main college site of Capel Manor is an eighteenth
century manor house situated within thirty acres of estate and formal
gardens. The Duchess of Devonshire Pavilion houses the library,
information technology suite, lecture theatre and classrooms, with
the Saddlery workshop area being located in the Frances Perry Building,
adjacent to the College's stableyard.

Gained
Success on this course leads to the nationally recognised qualification
of the 'Cordwainers Diploma' which is made up of the following separate
elements:
- City &
Guilds Certificate in Saddlery Studies
- Society of
Master Saddlers/City & Guilds Skills Tests (Level 1 and 2)
- Worshipful
Company of Loriners Intermediate and Advanced Certificates.

Requirements
You are invited to contact the College to discuss
with a course tutor a study programme which will help towards your
intended career. All student applications are considered on an individual
basis, following an interview at the College, but the normal entry
requirements are:
- BTEC
First Diploma or
- 4
GCSEs at Grade C or above (or equivalent) or
- Other
qualifications of an equivalent standard or

Relevant experience plus Accreditation of Prior Learning and Experience.
Venue
This course takes place at the College's main site
in Bullsmoor Lane, Enfield.
