School Visits

Capel Manor College is Greater London's only specialist College of Horticulture and Countryside Studies with gardens fully open to the public. Capel Manor has been providing programmes for schools for over thirty years as one element of our mission:

to promote the understanding of plants, flowers and animals for career, business and leisure purposes.

What schools can expect from us:
  • Well-structured outdoor education programmes with a biogeography theme providing a focus for learning within the whole curriculum; from nursery to A Level.
  • Tailored to the teacher’s needs, for example whether they need help with plant life, animal life or ecological surveys these can be carried out at Capel Manor, the farm, or river surveys all offering a ‘hands-on’ approach to bring teaching to life.
  • Information about how to make your school more environmentally aware or about creating habitats.
  • A safe and enjoyable experience while visiting Capel Manor College.
  • Skilled and experienced staffing contribution.
  • Adherence to our Equal Opportunities Policy.

We would like you to:

  • Take overall responsibility for your group while on the College estate with respect to your visit and our property.
  • Co-operate with us to make your time at Capel Manor College enjoyable and worthwhile.
  • Be considerate of other users of Capel Manor College.
  • Let us know quickly if you feel we have not provided the service we intended to, or if you have any difficulties. Let others know if you think we have got it right!
  • Ensure that children are suitably dressed to enable outdoor work in the prevailing weather conditions.
  • Provide adult supervision for visits on a ratio of 1 adult to 10 primary school children.
  • Provide both male and female adult supervision for mixed sex groups of children.
  • Recognise that we are a working college. Activities offered may be subject to change over the year to avoid disruption to students.

And finally...

Our Charters are intended to develop and change over time. Please let us know if you have any suggestions on how we can improve our service to you. Thank you.
