LONDON GARDENING SOCIETY MORE THAN THREE TIMES OLDER THAN
THE RHS COMBINES WITH THE YOUNGEST HORTICULTURAL COLLEGE IN
ENGLAND TO CREATE A UNIQUE DISPLAY AT THE CHELSEA FLOWER SHOW

Capel
Manor students, Nadia Amara, Julia Brook and Clare Fullerton,
have decided to pay tribute to The Worshipful Company of Gardeners,
in a unique display tracing the history of the Company from
its first mention in 1345 to the present day.
Using
a backcloth depicting the changing skyline of London over
the last 660 years the students have designed and created
three gardens representing the changing face of the Company
over this period.
Thomas
Fairchild was one of the famous members of the Livery in the
past - current membership (limited to 300) includes many who
are influential in the world of horticulture and the City.
The Company continues to be active in promoting horticulture
in the City and supports education and training through a
variety of projects.
The exhibit
marks the 400th anniversary of the award of The Royal Charter
to the Company in 1605 which was fully activated in 1606 (hence
celebrating it this year!)
Capel
Manor College is the only predominantly horticultural college
in England to have Beacon status and Centre of Vocational
Excellence status for Horticulture, Landscaping, Garden Design
and Floristry.
Its 3,500
students are drawn mainly from London and are active in the
industry.
