Looking to develop your employees’ skills?
Then Capel Manor’s new Apprenticeship scheme could be the ideal way to for them to gain a nationally accredited qualification while they work. On the job apprentices over the age of 16 (note these are now open to those 25+) work alongside their employer and the rest they learn from Capel Manor College on a day release basis. The programmes rely on a close working partnership between Employers, the Work based Learning Provider and the Apprentice.

How will they benefit?
Apprentices will achieve an NVQ Level 2 in Arboriculture as well as two valuable NPTC Certificates. Capel Manor are currently offering PA1 and PA6 pesticides and CS30 and CS31 chainsaw and felling trees. If apprentices have already achieved these certificates, then suitable alternatives will be offered. In addition the apprentices will take Level 1 Key Skills including Communication, Application of Number, Working with Others, Improving Own Learning Performance, Problem Solving and I.T. as well as an Emergency First Aid at Work certificate.

How much will it cost?
Apprenticeships for students aged 16-18 are absolutely free and there is a reasonable charge to employers for any apprentice aged 19 or over. Under the apprenticeship scheme the college would expect employers to pay their apprentices a wage appropriate to their level of experience and in line with wages within the industry.

When does the course start?
The course is scheduled to start towards the end of September 2007 when apprentices will be required to attend college at the Enfield site each Friday usually for a year.

How does my company get involved?
Any additional information you require about the content of the course or fees payable for apprentices aged 19 or over can be obtained from either Linda Hope or Shuna Wickham, the Work Based Learning Co-ordinators, on 08456 122 122 ext 181.
