The aim of this one-year course is to give students practical skills and vital underpinning knowledge in the care of animals.

The Course
This is a full time course and students are required to attend college 3 days a week.

The course is ideal for school leavers or adults who are looking for a change of career. It offers learners who may find academic work more challenging the opportunity to gain close support and guidance during their studies towards a career in the animal care sector.

Qualification Gained
Success in this course leads to the nationally recognised award of City & Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Landbased Studies (Animal Care).

The course can be used as a progression route onto the BTEC First Diploma in Animal Care.

Entry Requirements

All students are strongly encouraged to attend the Summer School Foundation Certificate in Animal Care to ensure course choice is appropriate to their requirements.

You are welcome to contact the College to discuss with a course tutor an individual study programme that will help towards your intended career path. All applications are considered on an individual basis, following an interview at the College.

Facilities

Practical sessions are carried out in the College’s four specialist animal areas. The small animal unit houses a range of species such as mice, rabbits and chinchillas. The exotics room houses species such as reptiles, amphibians and fish. The stockyard area houses a collection of livestock including pigs, goats, sheep, cows and poultry and also houses Capel’s Clydesdales.
