Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships at Capel Manor College, Enfield

Apprenticeships and Advanced Apprenticeships at Capel Manor College
Combing qualifications with experience.

Looking to develop your employees’ skills?
Then Capel Manor’s Apprenticeship schemes could be the ideal way for them to gain a nationally accredited qualification while they work. On the job apprentices over the age of 16 (note these are now open to those 25+) work alongside their employer and the rest they learn from Capel Manor College on either a day or block release basis. The programmes rely on a close working partnership between Employers, the Work based Learning Provider and the Apprentice. Apprenticeships are designed by businesses in your sector to meet the needs of your business. This means the training is always relevant and it is tailored to the needs of your sector by people who genuinely understand what you do.

Where and when are these schemes offered?
Apprentices may be able to join the schemes at different time throughout the year, click on these links for more information about a specific course:

Amenity Horticulture at Enfield, Crystal Palace and Gunnersbury

Arboriculture Apprenticeship at Enfield and Horsenden Hill

Advanced Amenity Horticulture at Regents Park

Advanced Arboriculture Apprenticeship at Enfield

How much will it cost?
Apprenticeships for students aged 16-18 are absolutely free and there is a reasonable charge to employers for any apprentice aged 19 or over. Under the apprenticeship scheme the college would expect employers to pay their apprentices a wage appropriate to their level of experience and in line with wages within the industry.

Success stories
Capel Manor is very successful at delivering apprenticeships with an 85% success rate in 2009/10. We work with many employers on the Apprenticeship and Train to Gain programmes from London Boroughs, large companies and contractors through to very small businesses. What do our employers think about the training we offer?
“Bartlett Tree Experts have had two employees on the Apprenticeship programme so far and are looking to have two more this year. As an employer we are always looking for ways to train our employees. The Apprenticeship programme means that we can effectively combine the classroom with genuine practical experience. This mix of theory and practical is a great foundation and has produced employees who are well placed to advance in an arboricultural career.” Steve Biggs (Training Manager) Bartlett Tree Experts.

“It’s great to see Apprenticeships back, real on the job training backed up with theory gained at college with external certification in a number of areas. It has been a cost effective way of training an employee in their first year, usually the most expensive. At the end of the scheme our apprentice had gained certification in the key areas such as chainsaw use and climbing techniques, which has safeguarded his position within the company and provided a firm base for future learning and employment.” Steve Venables (Managing Director) Venables Tree Care.
