Success breeds success - 13th August 2008

The college has the chance to offer extra places to 16-18 year old students this September.

Capel Manor College has been allocated special additional funding to enable it to recruit extra 16-18 year old students on to its unique range of courses in Animal Management, Horticulture, Countryside Conservation, Arboriculture and Floristry this September.

Head of College, Madeline Hall said: “the College is often over subscribed but we hate to turn students away from courses they are qualified to get on to and interested in as there are so many opportunities to either go into employment, set up their own business or progress to University/Higher Education.

This year we have exceeded our targets and success rates have gone through the roof for 16-18 year olds”.

Chief Executive, Steve Dowbiggin said: “it is great to be given these extra funds.  We need to let potential students know that we are recruiting again as we had thought many courses were full.  Most of the courses we offer for 16-18 year olds are equivalent to 5 good GCSE’s or to three ‘A’ Levels.  They give students the opportunity to gain national qualifications whilst really getting involved in looking after animals and/or the environment.

Many young people today are passionate about these areas and really enjoy the courses, even though they are extremely demanding and hard work. I do not know if we will ever be able to offer chances like this again to 16-18 year olds”.

If you’re 16 – 18 years old and are interested in a career in Horticulture, Animal Care, Tree Surgery (Arboriculture), Environmental Conservation or Floristry then come along to one of our Recruitment Days at Enfield and Gunnersbury Park on Saturday 6th September, and at Crystal Palace on Saturday 13th September between 10am – 3pm to discuss your options with staff.
