Anyone studying at Capel Manor can access support from the School of Student Services. The school works with students to develop a range of supplementary skills that will aid them in achieving on their courses and progressing to further study and employment. Learning support is provided by our expert team of learning support assistants and lecturers that are all experienced in meeting the needs of those with a wide range of learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
Support offered:
All apprentices and students who are 16-18-years-old will study some areas of Functional Skills at the level they need. Adult students 19 plus are also encouraged to refresh and accredit their Functional Skills alongside vocational study.

School PLUS Programmes for 14-16-
year-olds
The School of Student Services offers individualised
programmes for schools to provide an opportunity for 14-16
-year-olds:
The programme can be tailored to suit the needs of learners from mainstream and from special needs schools. The 30+ week long programmes lead to the accreditation of an award at Entry Level 3. Shorter programmes can also be designed on request.
School links programmes for a Level 1 Certificate/Diploma in Land-based Studies with endorsed pathways in horticulture, countryside or animal care are also available for groups of students as a complement to GCSE study.
Access to FE Programmes for
16-21-year-olds
These are three day a week entry level
programmes for 16-21-year-olds who need to
gain qualifications to enable them to progress
onto Level 1 courses. The programmes are
suitable for candidates with a variety of mild to
moderate learning difficulties. They focus on the
acquisition of basic skills and work skills through
improvement of literacy, numeracy, IT, social and
communication skills, as well as entry level
qualifications in land-based studies such as horticulture,
animal care and countryside management. Contact the

requirements.
Discrete Provision for groups of students
(any age)
Short courses at Entry Level and Level 1 in gardening
skills may be designed on request.

Social and Therapeutic Horticulture
Capel Manor’s Social and Therapeutic Horticulture groups
are unique, providing an environment where people with an
interest in horticulture can meet, learn, socialise and often
expand their own physical capabilities whilst maintaining
and improving their health. The range of disabilities is wide,
encompassing moderate to severe physical disabilities and
mental health issues that arise due to physical problems,
such as depression.
